Circuit Specialist / Marlin P Jones Power Supply Quality?
« on: February 15, 2013, 02:12:46 am »
Hi everyone,

So I've been looking around for a bench power supply and found a line that might look interesting.

Has anyone had any experiences with this supply (or any of the supplies similar to this one)?

http://www.circuitspecialists.com/bench-power-supply-csi3005xiii.html

...a non-functional perk, but I like the idea that the schematic is available right on the site.  The schematic does show one thing -- it's not very hackable.  The displays are driven by four classic ICL7106's.  I can't see from the "manual", but I don't think there'd be a way to see what the current limit was without driving a direct short.

Although the description leads you to believe the PS was made for Circuit Specialists, the same power supply is being sold by Marlin P. Jones!  Too funny!

So, has anyone ever used one of these supplies?

Thanks!

I believe that they are made in china and sold with many different labels.
At least you should have a decent warranty from CS.

I am considering a single channel model. I think the OEM is this one:

I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.

I've got one of those triple output power supplies sitting next to me at the moment, so shout if you have any specific queries!

Although the readouts aren't very hackable, the rest of it is.  For example, it comes with the current limit adjustable from 0 to 5A in 50mA steps.  On one of the supplies (the one on the right), I have modified it to be from 0 to 1A in 10mA steps - that's much more useful.  Of course you can turn off the current limit and get the full 5A if you need it.

No complaints here - I'd recommend it.
