Philips (Photonis) XX1080 50mm Image Intensifier with PSU
« on: May 02, 2024, 02:43:52 pm »
Hi (first post)

A friend gave me these saying, I would be the only one he knew who would have a go at getting them working; well 4 yrs later I have not.
I want to hand them on at no cost to someone who will use them.  All I am looking for is the postage, and perhaps a photo of them working sometime.

Hopefully some photos!

Clive

These look really neat.  Definitely some cool engineering there.  What am I looking at?  Is it some kind of lens of sorts?

Old night vision tubes that amplify low level ambient light.

These are vacuum tubes, with an interesting combination of photocathode, accelerating electrodes, and phosphor (electron-excited light emission) construction to give more light out than input, preserving the geometry of the light pattern hitting the photocathode.
There are different construction methods, including microchannel plates, that are used for this purpose that require reasonably high voltage to accelerate the electrons.

If it's UK-only then put me down as interested, but only if someone else isn't more keen (I have enough projects on my backlog as it is!)

Thanks for offering these to the community

Hi Guys

I have been on holiday last week so sorry for the late reply

Hi The Doktor
Shipping to the US is a bit of a push but thanks for your interest.

Hi Hydron
Thanks for your interest. I have a private message for an interested guy.  If I may I will give him first dibs and get back if he doesn't come through.

Clive
