FS: Tektronix THS720A 100MHz 2ch Isolated Handheld DSO
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:32:26 pm »
SOLD

As title says. Great condition. Only indication of wear is on the plastic BNC inputs which still work fine.

Each channel is completely isolated from the scope, and from each other. This is extremely uncommon to see in desktop scopes.

100MHz, 500 MSPS each channel.

There are also banana plugs for the multimeter mode with trend plot.

It has a brand new Ni-Cd battery pack I built for it (3x C cells) and a wallwart to charge it. You will get 1.5-2 hours from a full charge, maybe less if you run at full sampling speed.

Also included are two 200mhz x20 passive probes. Scope was last calibrated in 2010.

$390 plus shipping (probably no more than $15 for domestic US). This is a very good deal, and I wouldn't be selling this except for some unrelated things.
I can ship international but it will cost more.

Latest FW, supports trigger in via banana plugs if I recall

Do you know how the Tek THS700A series scopes compares to Fluke ScopeMeter 93, 95, and 97?

These units are pretty much a TDS210 shoved into a smaller package, with isolation and DMM integrated.
The Fluke 97 has 50mhz bandwidth instead of 100, and slower sampling. The scope measurements are probably not as extensive. However the multimeter frontend may possibly be more robust in extreme circumstances.

Here is a high resolution picture of the inside isolation:

From what I recall the early Fluke ScopeMeters (including the current 120 series) have a common ground for the two input channels, while the THS700 series has an isolated ground. So you can hook up one reference lead to earth and the other to your power rail without causing any short. A semi-differential measurement.

What I've heard from others was that the Tek handheld scopes were better in the usability department, closer to a real scope, than the Flukes. Haven't used one myself, though.
