FS [EU]: ESI 242D Primary resistance bridge SOLD
« on: April 04, 2023, 06:35:14 pm »

Sadly, my "sell the large instruments" project goes on.

This time something that is rarely available in Europe. The system was used for calibrating ESI SR104 (and other) standard resistors in a primary lab.

For more information please see my teardown last year. The unit for sale is the exact same as shown in my post.

The generator works, output voltages as expected.

The mains wires of the null meter have been unsoldered, possibly to minimize leakage, because an external nanovolt meter was used instead. Be careful, has not seen mains for decades. At least check the electolytics before connecting. The null meter is actually an HP 419A, so all the service documents are available on-line.

I quickly tested the bridge with some standard resistors of known value. Sharp null and the readings made sense. Could have been worse after almost two decades in storage (spare bedroom and room temperature though).

No switch problems during my tests, even though the switch contacts definitely need cleaning. The 10-turn Spectrol knob potentiometer "LEAD ADJ" was unstable at first and required turning back and forth to settle.

Prepare to spend a good amount of your spare time in cleaning and testing to make it great again.

Included:
- ESI 801 Generator/detector
- ESI 240C Bridge
- Original rack with top/bottom text plates, blank panels etc. as shown in the photo
- Low thermal cable for the Keithley meter

NOT included:
- Two ESI SR104 Standard resistors (who would have guessed)
- Keithley 181 Nanovolt meter *

* I will consider selling the Keithley 181, if you absolutely want it. But finding a null with digital display was no fun. I would recommend fixing the original analog meter. I used my good old Keithley 155 when doing the tests.

Euro-version, 230V 50Hz. Not sure if it can be changed to other voltages.

700 euros, EU only.

I will sell to a fellow volt/ohm-nut only. No test equipment dealers.

The buyer must be familiar with electrical safety regulations and know how to safely operate and repair professional test equipment. The 600V/6mA output voltage can kill you! Before shipping I will remove the power cable mains plug.

My guess would be that all can be shipped in a single box. The rack disassembles in nice flat pieces.

Shipping estimate is 15 to 45 euros depending on your location. Please ask. The actual postage only, nothing extra.
