Awesome EE Reference posters on Kickstarter
« on: January 15, 2012, 12:50:07 am »
Hey there!

Not sure this is the right section but I came across a kickstarter project making these awesome electronics reference posters.
I'm a newbie at electronics so these would really come in handy for me. Thought I would share this. If ur interested go check it out!

Does anyone knows of freely/openly  available similar posters and or reference cards we can print and laminate at local print shops?

I leave at least one resistor color code wheel I have found useful:

Sorry, but this is a bit of a "gimmick".Component suppliers & Electronics Magazines used to give these things away free!

You will use it a few times, but after a while it just becomes "part of the wall".

I wouldn't waste $25,which you could use to buy several books with all this information.

That's why I wrote of free ones.

C'mon, 4000 USD to print some posters?!
It's enough to buy his own poster printer and still have a vacation on the other side of the world!
I'd expect him to ask for something a setup fee of a professional print shop and enough to make 100 posters to start selling.

Which is just a standard periodic table with the word X-ray written on it as far as I can see. Guess it would work as a movie prop.

Hum.. you do have a point there. I'm too lazy to look these things up each time that's why a poster would be useful. Well I guess I could print my own. No way they would look as nice tho. I'm gonna search the net some more maybe something turns up.

I agree with vk6zgo... the big image above is basically the first page of Practical Electronics For Inventors (Paul Scherz)... plus for your 25 quid you get another 951 pages of other things to look at :D

The table graphic is just the index.  Click on an element for more information about its x-ray spectral properties.

I still can't see anything x-ray related. What's visible by clicking is pure chemistry as I was taught in high school.

Gotta say, while I could have just spent $40 for 2-3 posters using some print-on-demand place. I'm simply lazy to dig through an Horowitz or an ARRL handbook when I just need to look up something simple.  Plus, I'd rather not blow up some image from the web that isn't mine anyway.  It's certainly not for everyone, but to each their own.  I've got exactly one poster over the PICKit 3, I gotta say - I use it.

@RJSC

As for the price, I don't think it's unreasonable. First, kickstarter/amazon take 10% off the top. The bulk printing run starts at $400 for each run of 200 posters(shipped) - but it's mostly setup, adding more 100 posters costs just a couple bucks more for the paper. Oh, and my wife and I still have to stuff them into poster tubes, print shipping labels, and send them off - that cost is fixed.  Below a certain number of customers, it's simply not worth it.  The kickstarter keeps my cash in my pocket in the case that no one was interested.

That being said, I think the price is *quite* generous. If there's enough left to (maybe) get some more supplies, test equipment, metal stock, or tooling, I think I will have earned it - so no regrets there!
