I also get very uncomfortable around such content nowadays, even though I'd imagine it would be quite interesting. Yet back when I was a kid, those science shows (Nova, etc.) that featured surgery scenes didn't bother me.
Funny thing is blood itself does not bother me at all, but there is something about seeing them reaching in and playing around with tendons and other such tissues that kinda makes me cringe, yet, is still interesting enough that I wanted to keep watching, and I knew what I was getting into.
If you want something really cringe worthy, that scene in 172 hours where the guy cuts his arm, and gets to the main nerve.
I still could not bring myself to do that, I'd rather just die there. But guess when you're in that situation survival instincts kick in and you do anything to stay alive.
