Floatplane

Time to also consider floatplane?

Countless people keep mentioning this. So for the hundred time, (unless it's changed) Floatplane is NOT a competitor to Youtube, it's not a public platform, it's a private subscription based service. I don't do subscription based content.
EDIT: Just watched the video, and yep, still not a Youtube competitor at all. I have signed up just so people will shut up about it ;D but I can't see how I'm going to be able to use it. I don't have time to make enough public content, let alone private content, and I can't see whay anyone would pay to watch my content on Floatplane when I they can watch it for free on half a dozen different platforms.

I was just thinking of it as another platform you could use to mirror your content while users on Floatplane could support you. (don't mirror all your old stuff, just new videos)

View it more as Patreon competitor that also hosts your video. No need for any perks (except maybe pre-releases?)

Yup. I seriously don't see why even mention it - as far as I've gotten it, Floatplane is owned by Linus from LTT, I have nothing against him whatsoever, but I wouldn't see why EEVBlog would do anything to promote his business. I don't see what would be in for EEVBlog viewers either.

Considering an alternative and open platform? Why not. (Although, problem is, when you're running a business that heavily relies on releasing content, using a platform that has little traction won't help your business much.) But this? Certainly not.

FYI, I have signed up to floatplane, basically just shut people up  ;D
They will "get back to me", it's not automatic.
But because it's only for private membership content, of which I make practically zero content for, and have no intentions of doing so, I don't really see the point.
AFAIK they don't support syncing to your Youtube channel so everything would have to be manually uploaded.
I see zero future in this platform, it's just yet another private video platform of which there are already dozens of options. I get approached about once a month from new startups offering the same thing.

If you want to leading alternative platform, LBRY is it. I'll be heavily promoting this in the coming months.

Once I got past the fact that Library.tv is a domain squatter and LBRY.tv doesn't come up when you Google it phonetically, the first video I see on LBRY's home page is from some vegan claiming that eating meat gives you cancer, followed by "Area 51 UFO Uncut Footage", and then a bunch of alt-right political commentators (Stefan Molyneux, Paul Joseph Watson, Alex Jones, etc.). But to their credit, Veritasium and Minute Physics were mixed in there too.

So unless they really start curating their site, it's just going to turn into BitChute 2.0.
