EEVblog....not EEVblog video?!?

Howdy from Texas everyone!

 I was watching YouTube this morning and saw a suggestion for this EEVblog video.   Well, when I looked at the usual info on the preview, I noticed it wasn't from Dave.  It's from "Bill Mainguy". Seems curious to me. I'm assuming this is not a sanctioned copy of the EEVblog video.

This is not the only video of Dave's that this guy has.  If they are "legit" then i'll move on, but it not I wanted to let you all and Dave know that someone is using his videos.

Hi!
You should neuter the links, they start automatically in my app giving views to the YouTube channel. I don't want that for now.

Watched the start of one of those videos and they begin with a message you can get the item 'cheap' if you follow the Amazon link in the first comment. I'd say the objective of this copycat is pretty clear...

I reported this guy or someone very similar to him a while ago with copies of various electronics channels posted. I don't think Youtube cares much if it's not reported by the video owner.

In the new updated Youtube Studio page, it's possible to do an automatic check for copied videos and then hit a button to take any offline.

It doesn't get the videos that have a black border around them and the like, but it will find direct re-uploads.

Wow, didn't know about that, will look for that now. The previous process for manually reporting a copyright was slow and painful.

FYI there are no authorised copies of my videos, except for a few snippets here and there like a dealer might upload or something.

You still have to fill out a form to request removal, but seems much more streamlined than before were you had to copy and paste links etc.

Aside from the special case of giving views to this pirated channel, isn't it totally annoying to be greeted by auto-playing video on oh-so-many pages? I don't think the videos here are meant to auto-play; having viewed the EEVblog forum with various browsers, I have never encountered Youtube videos which play on their own.

I do agree, but it is a rather unusual name - maybe the real Bill Mainguy caught the eye of the numbnut who's ripping you off.

Well, try with Tapatalk on iOS. They do preview and autoplay. Does it only for the YouTube links from what I see in this thread. The other links are not previewed.

Still, the Golden rules of InfoSEC says to NEVER provide an active link to bad content. Replace http with hxxp. Problem solved across the globe for everyone, and not just me.

As for autoplaying sh!t, yes, that is totally annoying. Excessive scripting, trackers, analytics, too! I mean, when a web page loads stuff from 43 different domain names... Script blocker heaven!
