I don't mind the one as a header to any page, but the one as a footer is just.......visual pollution.  :--

There has always been that exact same ad in the footer.
It's just now in the last post instead of the very bottom.
I'm just playing around with some ad settings.

I prefer the footer.  You can ignore it by not scrolling down that far.  The header ad is always in your face.

Yet no one has complained about the (huge) header ad for about 4 years now  ;D

I haven't seen it in 4 years!

Soon as an ad affects my usage of a site it goes away. Wasting the limited vertical space on modern monitors is a prime example of affecting usage.

It looks more like a script went cactus on the eevblog forum server ...but I could be wrong...I was once :)

No, there are many options for ad placement on the forum:

Is the 'welcome user area' by any chance the immense empty space at the top of every single page? Because that's a great place to put ads.

Also, have not Dave just bragged that his AdSense revenue increased a lot. Is this a way to capitalize on this increase?

No, it's the exact same ad I had there before at the bottom of the page. I'm just playing around with the ad placement settings.

The header ad doesn't interrupt the page. This one is between things. That's just bad design.

I wouldn't complain about it because I realize it's how you make money, the ads are appropriate for the site, and I feel a bit guilty about blocking them  :-[ .  I can't figure out how to allow supplyframe.com on eevblog but block it elsewhere.

If you have TamperMonkey in Chrome (proabably GreaseMonkey in FF works too, untested), hit below to install a user script to remove that annoying last post.

No warranty expressed or implied :)

Fyi, looks like its turned off by Dave just now, and this script will make the last legit post disappear.

Sure it does, you have to scroll down before you start reading. It's just that everyone got used to it.
BTW, try not to swear and SHOUT. People tend to take you less seriously.

Ads within the top and bottom limits of the forum page affect user flow, without those ads all the buttons/links are easily accessable without interuption from the ads. I use the links and shortcuts both top and bottom and when the ads are outside the user's area it makes for a better flow.
The footer ad that was there this morning definately did the job it was intended to....it was in your face and we may not have bitched so much IF it was electronic related.

In theory I made it check the poster's name to be sure it was the annoy-o-tron in action, in practice 20 years of C-like languages and you'd think I'd be able to reliably type == instead of =  |O

Happens to all of us... LOL...
Even after the same amount of time I sometimes forget the semicolon... I curse myself because it should simply be habit.
Where are we going, and why are we in a handbasket?

Those pesky varmints get me too often.  :-DD At least the semicolon is usually alerted by the compiler, the = vs == usually ends up in your released code, usually somewhere obscure and doesn't show even after thorough testing. Like I think in this case (an external change showed it up).
