Is it me or are they using different settings on the meters - might that account for the reading difference?
Looks like they are using a diode test on the old meter, rather than resistance mode as on the Brymen.

If it were diode test you'd see a voltage.
Since it shows resistance, they are both in the continuity test mode. But good question.
Profile -> Modify profile -> Look and Layout ->  Don't show users' signatures

No, you can see that both are in continuity mode via the sound LCD symbol
