I did this tear down a decade back.  I haven't posted for a while but was excited to see your recent video.  I really do like those Metrix meters!

The one I opened up appeared to have been a higher end version of the family.  There are a number of notable internal differences including a totally different switch assembly, IR communications via the battery compartment and some very good internal parts.

I still have a working MX43. Cool stuff. These models were actually not *that* well built, but they were still able to survive 3 decades, so... ;D
