The little wifi antenna is a quite common center-fed quarter-wavelength dipole design. The metal sleeve acts as the second half of the dipole. It's connected to the outer shield of the cable. It's better than just using the cable shield itself as the ground plane, hopefully keeping the cable from radiating itself and feeding the radiation back into the PCB.
Everybody likes gadgets. Until they try to make them.

Dave mate, the only free thing you'll find in a dumpster in my neighbourhood is a dump.

I noticed when you were doing the upgrade, were those Raspbian logos? So would it possible to hack into the Kernel via a telnet connection? Maybe try the old trick of logging in as user root, password root?

Informative and entertaining :-+

btw We hope your air isn't too toxic from those devastating bush fires in the Sydney area.

I think those raspberries were there because a Pi was used to provide the HDMI test signal.

A family "in need" does NOT need a 55" TV.  However, it would be a great idea to build a turnkey A/V system around this TV and then donate it to a charity that runs some kind of shelter, either for women & kids or homeless people.
