I would like to know what are the advantages and disadvantages of using an opamp differential amplifier in a circuit?

They are small.
(In other words, you have not provided enough information for someone to give a reasonable answer. What kind of circuit are you considering, what kind of differential op-amp, etc.)

What do you mean that is a typical building block circuit. There are no disadvantages or advantages. There is just knowing when to use it . If you had a particular situation there may be advantages or disadvantages.
