what your favorite good quality breadboard?
« on: July 19, 2013, 09:24:50 pm »
Plastic solderless breadboards aren't the most reliable thing in the world. This morning I noticed that lots of the metal strips on one part of my breadboard where popping out the bottom of the plastic. I'm assuming there are good ones and bad ones just like any product.

I've noticed that some people have breadboards with round holes. Are they just the same on the inside as the regular square holed ones?

I love the robustness of round machine-pin headers and was thinking abut something like this for a while and today I found that somebody already built one.

I haven't had any problems with 3M brand breadboards.

I get the ones from Jameco that are under their value pro line - they are rebranded wish or wisher brand ones.  So far they have been good for me.  It seems whenever I try a generic one I regret it.

I haven't had any problems with 3M brand breadboards.

I have a 3M and an Elenco brand breadboard.  Both are good quality, and the 3M is probably my favorite, but it's annoying that the outer power rail on the 3M board is not spaced 0.1" from the inner rail, like the Elenco and and any other sane breadboard should be.  And it's not 0.2" either.

I buy the big ones form ebay - like 3400 point ties or something.  They aren't very good.  It takes 3 or 4 times inserting a wire to "break them in".  Haven't had any bad connections yet.....yet.  That I know of  |O

Breadboard are for prototyping and dicking around so I just use the cheap Chinese ones. That way I don't have to worry if I insert components with too thick leads or something. If it breaks I can just buy a new one.

I use cheap china/generic ones as well for the odd times i use them.

Never had any issues except for once when i forced in wire that was too big and it stretched the contacts.
Those holes didn't work as well for normal sized wire after that (i just used a maker pen to color them red so i knew to not use them again).

Oh, and once i came across one that had no bottom on it, wire could bend over and short to adjust pads if you pushed it in far enough.
However i think someone had removed the bottom, i don't think it was originally like that.

Be careful with some of the chinese made boards, I had one that had the red and black marked rows of pins on the same conductors.
