HF transformer primary volts per turn calculation
« on: February 11, 2020, 12:04:52 am »
For the following core configuration

N27 material
Gap = 0.5mm
Total inductance factor of the core: AL = 438 nH
Effective permeability of the core: μe = 207
Relative permeability of the core material: μr = 2300ur
Frequency = 60Khz
Ae = 173 mm2

I got 0.05 volts per turn on primary. Is that calculation correct?

What Bmax?

I suppose it's not an insanely large core, so 100mT might be fine, 200 even (maybe not 300+ especially being closer to saturation?).

In any case, V/N = 4.44*Bmax*Ae*F, or 4.0 instead of 4.44 for square rather than sine wave (volts in RMS in either case).  So around 9V/turn.

l_g, l_e (not specified) and the mu's have no bearing on this calculation; they are freely adjustable and independent of Bmax.  (They set the current required to reach Bmax.)

If instead you specify a required Lpri and Isat(min), then these data are necessary.

Sorry, my previous calculation was a bit wrong.

Hopefully this spreadsheet attached has improved. I am trying to keep my Bmax under 1500.

So basically the voltage I need my primary to handle is the plot attached.
