I could get a cheap UV-C Light wand (SG150 uv wand), and I thought that with some hacking I would be able to use it to erase EPROMs.
It has 2 leds. When you connect power the red light turns on, you have to press the button for 3 seconds and the green led will start to blink. Press the button again and the green led will burn continuously AND the UV light will turn on for 30 seconds.
This is not long enough, so I wanted to modify this device but it seems to contain some completely unmarked 8-pin IC. I did some measuring using my DMM and Scope.. and I think it's safe to say it's not a 555 timer or PICAXE. It uses a 0.9 MHz clock signal, contains some processing capabilities, and outputs a 95.2 KHz signal for 30 seconds when activated. Which in turn gets turned into some really high voltage. My DMM has a maximum of 600 volts and it showed 1100 / 1300 volts for 1 second before going into protection.
If I know what IC this is, maybe I'm able to read it, modify the code and reprogram it to just output the 95.2 KHz signal whenever it has power, not even bothering about the pushbutton. Any ideas?
EDIT: The bright red line on the board is +6 volts, the yellow line on the right is GND. The three small transistors are S8050 NPN transistors. The three larger ones (near the HV transformer) are D882 - NPN medium power transistors.
