The Aneng AN8009 arrived.
« on: January 14, 2018, 07:43:11 am »

What do you all think of it, as a cheap  meter? I do not want to be hauling the Eevblog/Brymen 235 around.

Thanks
Russ

I got ANENG AN8008 and am quite happy with it.. i had to replace the fuses with SMD ones at some point but besides the obvious and expected issues of such a cheap product, it does the job, and serves well....

Great idea     assuming the SMD fuses can suppress the BANG! properly

and not become a flashover fast bridge to multimeter hell  >:D

Still, there's lots of room left in there for spares, and toothpicks to pry them out   ;D

I'd feel more secure and confident lugging the heavier 235 around and get a free pump,
you never know where DIY probing can take you sometimes  :-//

Thanks for this post - I had no idea my meter had SMD fuses (I did not know they even existed).  Now to order some   :-+

Now I am confused

https://www.markhennessy.co.uk/budget_multimeters/aneng_an8008.htm

Shows 10mm fuses

Could it  be the posted picture with the name 8008 is really a 8009 ?

I guess I have to open my "8" and order a "9" and some SMD fuses just for the hell of it  :-DD

What is the real scoop?  I have a handicap - I have "fuseritis"  this is a disorder where I blow too many fuses

thanks

They are the tiniest fuses that I’ve ever seen (Aneng 8009)

SMD fuses are common in the boards I use for work - they are certainly tiny but quite useful.

One interesting tidbit: Littelfuse rates them up to 250VAC with an interrupt rating of 100A. However, if you use your meter up to 86VDC, it shows a rating of up to 10kA - same rating when compared to the multi-dollar Bussman fuses used by Fluke! :-DD

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Thanks I was getting confused which is easy.

I opened my 8008 and found the 3.6 x 10mm 10a fuse in a fuse holder.  So I looked to buy some and the only reasonable ones come with leads.  I ordered 100 for $7  and will cut the leads off.  Other wise they are over a buck each.  Regardless I am glad for this post to remind me to get extra fuses.  I do low voltage stuff so I feel that I do not need ceramic fuses (the one dollar ones).

Reading around forums, it seems I am not the only one to get confused.   :phew:

Oh, i am sorry, i didnt think noting i did change the stock fuses with SMD ones... i did so because i needed to replace the 250mA fuse with.. something... and i did have the SMD fuses lying around.... when i noticed the SMD fuse HOLDERS would fit perfectly in the position of the stock fuse holders it was a very easy decision.

I am very happy with the ANENG meter... i didnt like to order the same fuses it came with first because as said above, you can only find those with leads and second because you really dont know what those are good for right? While on the other hand, littlefuse parts are well known and good quality so why not? They come at a cost but they are not expensive either ....

I am still a bit unclear as to what SMD fuses are? I think that the OEM fuses are dirt cheap from Platt’s.

I hope it has a better rotary selector switch than the landfill-grade one they used on the AN8008.  >:(

Mine in the Aneng 8009 are small and cylindrical in size.

Yes, we know that. But the person who posted that picture replaced the original cylindrical fuse holders with SMD fuse holders and fuses.

You asked what SMD fuses are. The picture above shows an SMD fuse in an SMD fuse holder. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So why are you asking for so many words to explain what is so clearly shown in the picture?  ???

What is the purpose of replacing originals with SMD’s?

Thanks

I like this idea
