Extending phone camera's flat flex cable
« on: February 20, 2017, 11:34:48 am »
Hi. I want to move the camera module from my phone (Nexus 5) to the outside of the case and have it like ~10cm on the wire. Now I think this lenghts shouldn't drop the voltage to the point it doesnt work or something, but the main thing is getting flat flex cable extender that would fit good. How do I get the model or the socket information for that phone? Where do i look to buy flat flex cables? Or maybe I should solder some thin wires? But that would be a problem since Im not so good with soldering and its very miniscule. Thanks

I guess the only thing you can do is opening you phone and take measurements/pictures of the cable/connector.

If you just want an external, flexible camera. There are android OTG endoscope cameras you could use.

Its a custom made flex with a connector in the end, you wont get extensions for that off the shelf, and 10cm is enough to degrade the MIPI signals..
