SMT Pin 1 Marking
« on: January 25, 2020, 07:58:55 pm »
This might win the prize for stupidest question ever, but this is my first time trying to solder SMT parts. I went to put a 74HC595 on the board and did not see a dot or cutout to indicate pin 1. There is a bar on one end, though, that I would logically assume for pin one. Is that the pin marking, or just part of the graphics?

And just for reference, I attached a blurry picture of the chip.

Yes, the bar/line indicates where pin 1 is. The package has also got a chamfer on one side which confirms pin 1.

Much thanks!

I won't tell you how long it took me to find the chamfer.  :-DD
