:: SMD size comparison JPG chart
« on: November 04, 2014, 06:36:16 am »
have been trying to make some prototype PCBs ... and ran into some weird diode sizes @ element14 ... unlike resistor sizes being easy to understand, i decided to make a chart to put some shapes together for reference purpose. hope its useful for new people etc (and useful for pad size swapping and equivalent model size confirmation)

Handy, cheers

The red text is really hard to read on the pink, though

That looks like quite a useful little guide.

One thing, is my eyes deceiving me or is there no 0603?

I like it!  It does need 0603 though!

Not to keep asking for stuff, but can you do an inverted one with a white background and black components?  I could try to print it to scale which would be cool too.  Thanks!

Nice

How would one go about printing to scale? I tried unsuccessfully at work today  :-//

Very nice.  On the scale you can paste the picture into a program like Word and adjust the size until the 100 mil scale is 100 mil...

Maybe it could be embedded into a PDF so the scale could be set.  If so you could have two copies - one at scale and one zoomed for readability and size comparison.  Landscape would be best.

American - Metric
01005 = 0402
0201 = 0603
0402 = 1005
0603 = 1608
0805 = 2012
1008 = 2520
1206 = 3216
1210 = 3225
1806 = 4516
1812 = 4532
2010 = 5025
2512 = 6332
So please specify if you're an American, or a human.  :P

Ha ha. But frankly saying Americans won in this case. Don't know single EU catalog which would use European sizes as default, at least as main ones, not somewhere in description.

i manage to re-do this chart partially for fun (the original is lost in a broken HDD)
this image below is a lossy version (google blogger compression)

this file version is in GIF 1pixel per 1mil resolution
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8yFRtbwGWr5YmRuSC15dy13OVE
the main purpose is to help aid in PCB layout, esp for hand soldering (and hidden perils of bulky capacitors)
most packages are re-edited to facilitate a manhattan-ish style of work (top side layout-ish)
by zooming in, the component model can be seen and can be found on mouser, eg p09 series VR)
(as to why my EAGLE have such colorful palette, see here https://3roomlab.blogspot.sg/2015/09/diy-eagle-cadsoft-hotkey-settings.html , this works for version 6.xx. old EAGLE ftw)
feel free to download n use. ENJOY !  :P
