Rotary Encoder? What part # and is there a datasheet?
« on: October 10, 2018, 12:20:37 am »
I've tried to search Google, both regular links and images. I've tried to search through EEVblog forum archives, but couldn't locate anything similar.

Does anyone know what this component is? I've retrieved it from a dead MiniDV camcorder, where it was used as a menu selection jog wheel. As you can see from the pictures it has 6 (six) contacts soldered to the PCB and I managed to get continuity between a couple of them with a multi-meter while rotating the wheel one click at a time. But that didn't help me understand how it works as only a couple of contacts responded, the rest a silent.

There is also one "leg" (pad/contact) on the other three sides, but they don't seem to be connected anywhere and must be only for helping to secure the component to the PCB, but I may be mistaken.

Thank you in advance.
