Rigol DS1054z hack problem
« on: November 16, 2019, 07:31:34 pm »
Am trying to "Hack" a Rigol DS1054z that I purchased in 2015. After following the instructions verbatim, I get a "Invalid License" message when I input the generated code in to the scope. Any ideas?

Did you make sure that you really entered the correct serial number?

I've never hacked a DS1054z so idk if it complains along the way if you mess up but it's worth a check.

I found it much easier to hack over ethernet (where I could easily copy/paste the data) rather than the front panel nonsense data entry.

See section 5 here:

You should probably search the Test Equipment forum where there are MANY links about unlocking the Rigol.  As I recall, and don't count on my memory, one of the sources of unlock codes didn't always get the right answer.

You can also do a Google search of 'riglol' - yes, misspelled

I think gotroot.ca is the right site.

Don't use any option code other than 'DSER'

I seem to recall reading that utilizing certain browsers will sometimes generate an invalid key. You might try a different one.

This is the site I used:   http://gotroot.ca/rigol/riglol/

There have been some problems with certain browsers in the past.

Make sure to CLEAR the input box before entering your serial number!!!
Make sure not to mistake zero's and O's, ones and L's, etc.

Enter DSER in the options box.

The PrivateKey box will populate itself from your serial number.  Do not change it.

If you try to enter your unlock code too many times into your scope, it will lock.
You will then need to leave it powered ON for 12 hours (I think that's the time) to unlock it before you can try again.

Good luck.

It may also be good to mention that, as far as I know, the "hack" or unlocking always has worked, once the correct serial number is entered into the correct keygen and then into the oscilloscope.

The best way to find out the scope serial number is to look on the back of the scope where the SN is listed on the label. This can be confirmed by asking the scope itself but the numbers may be hard to read on the screen.

The best way to generate the unlock code is to _download_ the actual keygen from the riglol site, which version depends on your OS so just get them all, and run the keygen locally, using the code DSER to unlock all options + 100MHz bandwidth. The DSER code is not documented in the keygen help screen but don't worry, it works.

The best way to get the generated unlock code into the scope is to use telnet or other terminal emulator over the LAN, and copy-paste the necessary key into the terminal application, using the correct SCPI commands to talk to the scope. Alternatively you can enter it manually into the scope's little keyboard but you will get locked out for 12 hours actual runtime if you fail three times.

Again, as far as I know there are no known reported cases of the unlock procedure failing when properly applied, nor has anyone bricked their scope or failed to "re-lock" (remove options, reset to 50 MHz bw) when required, by using the proper procedure, the SCPI commands and the LAN connection.

Doing the "factory reset" procedure using the front panel buttons does not affect the options or the bandwidth.

I have the same scope which I also wanted to upgrade, and figured it was prudent to wait one year (it was purchased in Nov of 2018).  Using the website http://gotroot.ca/rigol/riglol/ which MarkF mentioned worked well.

My firmware was at 00.04.04.SP3.  Like others mentioned make sure to observe easy to miss characters like 1(one) l(lower case L) and such.

The only other thing odd, was it seemed my scope had most of the features unlocked except for the 100hmz and 500uv (the others showed as "official" without a timeout).  After the upgrade I used a 60mhz signwavec to test it and all seems to be working.  My scope was purchased a few months before they announced including all of the decoding features for free.  That said it is now able to see singles above 50mhz.

Best of luck.
