Sealing/Potting goo recomendation
« on: May 29, 2013, 08:12:54 am »
Hi guys,

For a project we need a sealant or potting goo. The one that was shown in the teardown of the insulation meter ( http://www.eevblog.com/2013/05/08/eevblog-468-uni-t-ut513-insulation-resistance-meter-teardown/ , time ~19:00). Does anyone know the specific product used there?

We'd like to use the rubbery type, not epoxy - if needed servicing should be an option - so it should be clear also.

Thank you,

David

Use GE 100% silicone rubber, available at your local hardware store in large cylindrical tubes. It generates some acetic acid when curing that could upset your apple cart, so be careful to allow the curing process to complete before device activation.

Speaking of potting goo.

Does anyone know of any that is transparent and thermally conductive?

If you use RTV, a neutral cure version, such as Dow Corning 732,  is safer around electronics.

When choosing conformal coating, I usually pick the most toxic one.  That has to be the best :)

I don't know about transparent, but there are some really great thermally conductive adhesives made by the loctite guys.

They are quite good, so good infact I used some in an enclosed space one weekend and had a terrible cough for months!
