Part Numbers

Im a bit of a noob but i just need some resources that will help in terms of finding a part number if it is not already known. Thanks Dave and i love your blogs. Keep up the great work. You inspire young technicians such as myself to become great and go beyond the realm of possibilities and limits.

Yeah, it's more that you search for parts that are suitable, rather than part numbers.

The part numbers only matter in such that you can find the part again if you want to use it in the future.

See im still kind of new his hobbyist thing and im not much of a blogger so im going to try to put this the best way i know how; If i have a Sony 43 inch "x" model and i need a replacement screen for example, where  are some good avenues to go with in that search? I mean i have searched high and low on the internet and have come up with nothing other than "The replacement screen is going to cost just as much as the television itself." Anyone pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaa (maybe if i say please enough Dave will appear with his magic tech wand) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!???

Unfortunately, a replacement television screen is not a "part" in the usually understood sense of the word.

What you could possibly do is dismantle the television and see if any identifying numbers are printed on the screen. Most likely you would find that it was specified and ordered as an exact custom part for that television and that there are no alternative sources of supply. If the television is more than a few years old there may not even be any replacements in existence any more.

The nature of consumer goods these days is if a major part fails or gets broken, you have to recycle the item and buy a new one. It is neither expected nor economical to repair things today. They are designed and manufactured down to such a low price point that attempting a major repair does not make sense.

Have you phoned the Sony Spare Parts for a price? What are they quoting? When you ring, get Sony to give you the part number for the screen, and then you can try a Google search.

Also do you know if it is the screen that is faulty? For example, if a row or column of pixels is wrong, it could be a faulty driver IC and not the panel.

Thank you Richard. I dont actually need a screen as of now. Thought id throw the question out now so if i do come across a damaged screen id know who to contact. Smart idea though. Im going to go online and find a model sony lcd tv and see if they (Sony) will give me the display part number so i can google around and see what comes up. Preciate it . Sometimes it pays having tech friends in high places
