Greetings from a 1st post newbie.

I've caught the 2 channel music bug and would like to learn more about electronic repair to service some older receivers, amps and speakers I currently own.

I'm going to buy some test equipment and was focusing in on Tektronix equipment.

There are two directions I'm leaning toward.  Either a 465B with supporting individual function generator, DMM (already have a couple), Power supply   OR   Finding a TM5xx chassis and adding the modules to keep the unit compact.

I feel the money may be similar, but mostly concerned about the individual modules as being even more outdated equipment then the 465B.  Just in a compact rack.  I think the modules would be easier to repair (newbie's point of view) and the 465 would have a better selection of repair info and parts if needed in the future.

I'm leaning toward the chassis and the modules for a longer term work space design.  Unsure if it really matters or if I'm going in the right direction.  Please shed some experienced light on the subject.

Thank you in advance,
Tom

TM500 modules are quite hard to repair, especially if you don't have extenders.  This goes double for the scope modules, which are also fairly unreliable  :(

Sounds like the 465B and individual components would be the way to go.  I got hooked up on the condensed package.
Thanks
