Noob question: What is this component?
« on: January 25, 2019, 03:33:04 pm »
It looks like a capacitor. But 3 pins?

I found it on a brushless motor ESC.

Ceramic resonator for clock generation.

I'm not too sure about that component being a ceramic resonator.
Those are usually a lot smaller.

It could be an unusual ceramic low voltage capacitor, or 2 capacitors in 1 SMD package.

If you follow the PCB traces you know for sure.
If it is connected to Vcc it is a capacitor.
If it is connected to the oscillator pins of the uC it is a ceramic resonator.

Nah; Arduino boards have been using especially tiny resonators, but a lot of them are much bigger.(also, that's not as big as it looks.  Assuming 0.8mm pin spacing on the TQFP, it's 4 or 5mm long?)https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/abracon-llc/AWSCR-16.00MTD-T/535-9362-2-ND/
