looking for waterproof barrel jack connector
« on: November 23, 2014, 11:13:40 pm »
Hello,

I wonder if anybody could help me to find in UK waterproof barrel jack connectors as shown below.

more info here
http://www.diytrade.com/china/pd/9807813/dc_plug_connector_waterproof_cable_3_5_dc_connector.html

it would be great to find something with good wire and at least 5A rating at 12VDC.

There some connectors in farnell and ebay with screw type seal, but I just need one, which clips together.

China suppliers are not an option, as I need them for next week

Cheers

Those are moulded connectors where the wire has been soldered to the terminals and then the housing injection moulded onto the cable. Barrel connectors that you can put on yourself won't be watertight. There seems little point having the cable entry waterproof when the connector itself has no way of being protected from water.

Would something like this suffice? Fairly cheap, and UK shipped.

How waterproof does it need to be?

Does it just need to be protected against cleaning or is it going to be submersed in several meters for days?

What IP rating do you need?

If you look up the "IP" waterproof ratings and define what you need, it will be easy to search distributors' catalogues for an appropriate  IP** connector.

You may need to take care with that cable, since a figure-of-eight cross-section might be a problem w.r.t getting a good seal.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

batteryspace has some lockable "waterproof" barrel connectors similar to the ones you posted above. I have the same type (different company) on my bike light and it works well. I googled it, they do ship to the UK, although they're based in the US.

Thanks for the answers. The wiring will be outdoors, so it is basically has to be splash proof. No submersion will be performed. An usually such connectors do come already with wiring or rubber sealing on the cable entry point.

when you start putting in IP ratings in the catalog like farnell, you get the screw together ones, but I need to be able to quickly disconnect them quite often.
