About the PICKit3
« on: January 04, 2011, 09:59:35 am »
Hi everybody
I'm all new here, I need some help about the PICKit3, well I'm a newby as you noticed, If you can help me I need a schematic of the pin-out from the PICKit to the PIC itself with the capacitors the diodes and resistors, before buying the PICKit I used the old programmer

It was so easy but as you know, it is only for one specified PIC, I used to program the famous 16F84, but now with the PICKit I don't know how to plug and how to make sure MPLAB recognize my PIC correctly.
Secondly I think Microchip did know about this problem, it's not practical to ask every-time about the schematic of how to plug this PIC or that one, isn't there a document with full explanation please ?

Oh! I forgot , I need to read a 24LC256 EEPROM too :/

Thank you all  ;)

Yo can see a basic diagram in the Pickit 3 Programmer/Debugger User's Guide (Page-18). For each PIC yo have to read the datasheet and check which pins are labeled as explained in the User's Guide.

Hi

Sorry, I still don't get it, do I have to put on a clock ?
Alright so what could be the PGC and the PGD on other PICs ?

the pickit pins are labelled, you need to find the same labels on each pic in the datasheet and match them up

if you buy the kit, you will know how to connect it. i got complete docs to start from nothing when buying my pickit2. just remember the MCLR, Vdd, Gnd (Vss), DAT and CLK.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but the PICKit3 comes with a nice poster that includes a pinout and some handy hints on how to construct your circuit.

It also includes the following image, with a caveat for those who were confused.

Thank you, I'm done with it, it was too simple. Now I'm busy with interfacing my pic with an application on my PC  via USB, thanks again for you all  :)

Good one! Just be careful about enormous PICKit3s or tiny PCs.

Is it the PK3 or the PC shooting the amber laser though?  :o

Explaining a joke ruins it :( If you look at the image I posted, it shows a large PICKit, a small PC, amber lasers, and a "Not to scale" disclaimer.
