Soldering tip temperature.
« on: June 08, 2010, 05:55:18 pm »
Is there a rule of thumb on soldering iron tip temperature,  the solder I have says its melting point is 190 degrees c,  but im assuming you want the iron a bit higher than that so your not spending to long soldering the component but how high ?

Unless you get a very expensive temperature-controlled soldering station, you won't be able to control (or even see) the temperature anyways.

If you do, 350C is probably enough for leaded solder. I like to go 420C for lead-free. But that's at the school's lab (with expensive soldering stations).

At home I just use a 25W. No idea how hot it gets, but it's fairly standard.

350C seems to work good,  thanks.
