help find in digikey / mouser
« on: June 17, 2017, 10:14:28 pm »

I'm working on a board that will plug directly into a Raspberry Pi's GPIO pins without an intervening IDC cable. In order for the board to clear the Ethernet and USB connectors, the header socket needs to be unusually tall.

Adafruit has a part like this for the job: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1658

OK, but not for $2. I just cannot figure out what the magic keyword is to find these guys from the more bulk-friendly suppliers. I just find regular height 0.1 types.

I also only need to connect to the first few positions of the RPi header, so I'd ideally prefer 2x5 rather than 2x20.

Thanks, blueskull. That's a bummer, but at least I know it wasn't a problem with my digikey and mouser search-fu.

Samtec ESW series: https://www.samtec.com/products/esw

Quickly ran through their ordering system and got quoted $0.88/ea for 100 units of 2x5, tin plate, 4.8mm tail and 13.6mm box.
