How to add a VU Signal Strength Meter to the Elenco AM/FM kit

I thought it might be neat to add a VU meter.  Can anyone tell me how to do it and what part(s) to get?

Please be specific. A signal strength meter is not the same as a VU meter.
Signal strength shows the power of the received radio signal (indicating reception quality).
VU shows the audio level of the received signal.
Which is it?

I guess a signal strength meter is what I was thinking.
