The cloth sticky tape you find say over a few cables on a PCB, what’s the proper name please:

What is that supermanky yellow tape they use on smps transformers called?
I only ask because I want to have it banned!

What's "manky" about it?  Yellow tape is a rubber or acrylic adhesive with PET backing, and does an excellent job for such purposes. :)

3M #56 is a typical example, and if you don't like that, maybe a #92 polyimide (Kapton(R)) would be more to your liking?
