Hakko 808.... Replace or Repair?
« on: February 28, 2018, 10:47:37 pm »
As some of you may know Hakko discontinued the 808 desoldering gun!!!

well i didn't notice until i had to clean out both my filter capsules again that i should get some spare parts ready.... that's when i realize it's been discontinued  :palm: It has worked pretty well for me,  although i've never used any other desoldering tool besides a plain iron with a pump  stuck on it like you might find at Radioshack.

I am deciding whether i should sell it to someone who wants it while it still works, or stock up on repair parts and keep maintaining it.

Does anyone have any ideas? If you had to desolder over 100 solder points in any given sitting you are doing repairs, is there another desoldering unit you might look to instead, those EEVbloggers who have more experience than I?

I'm not sure, but it clogs frequently. I don't think my filters are bad.

You should be able to repair it and fix your issue. There seems to still be a market for parts. But if you don't feel up to it, you can always sell it to someone who can fix it.
