How can I reproduce this failure?
«

Hello.
I am checking an electronic cover for a wiper motor. The relay driver / voltage regulator 2550klp is completely blown at its input.
I now am trying to replicate this in my table but it seems just cranking up the supply does not do it, it works normally at 13.5 V
What could actually have happened in the vehicle to specifically damage this component?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Where is the IC's datasheet, and rest of the schematic.
Inputs from the wand are 12V? CTRL goes to relay driver transistors?
There are many reasons for the IC to burn up.

The Allegro 2550 example circuit shows a diode in the VBB supply, presumably for reverse polarity protection, and your schematic doesn't include this, so perhaps the battery was connected backwards (quite common in the automotive world).

In a car the voltage can go up to 14V when a normal battery is connected.
If there is no battery connected or one that is almost dead the voltage can go up to 18v
But my guess is reverse voltage connected.
