newbie needs help

hi im looking for some help making a cheap motor control circuit
I have a treadmill with broken control board so wanting to make a manual speed control?
the motor is rated at 180 VDC 1200W 7A (but works with an 18V drill battery albeit slow) so looking for something I can make/buy to manually regulate the speed?
I have seen some on the net but only rated to 500W 4A so could I modify one of these to suit?

I second the recommendation to change your thread title to something more specific. The thread title is your sales pitch: you want to draw people in, not have them pass over it without noticing.

As to a specific answer, where are you located? Filling in your country would help with more relevant answers.

The output by default is AC, but you could theoretically pass that through a bridge rectifier to get DC for your motor. Rectified mains won't get you all the way to 180 V, but 120 V should have the motor turning at a reasonable speed.
