mA and microA ranges not working on multimeter
« on: July 15, 2017, 05:53:29 pm »
Hi, I have a cheap multimeter from eBay (PeakMeter PM8233E). The microA and mA ranges are not working on it, except that everything works fine. I can still measure A by using 10A socket. The mA fuse is rated for 250mA and I am pretty sure that I never measured that much current with this multimeter. Also, the meter just shows some random low values( such as 0.05 mA) when connected in a circuit.

Fuse is blown. Someone tried to measure voltage using the mA range.

Thanks Benta! I'll replace the fuse. Just wondering, do I also need to check the voltage rating of the fuse? The manual says that I need 250mA/250V fuse.

Note this meter has two off positions and the uA and mA share the same input terminal as volts/ohms.

If the rotary switch is on the right side off position and you have probes plugged into a live source and then switch the meter on to measure volts, you have to pass through the A, mA, and uA first to get to volts.

Dave talks about uA/mA sharing the same input terminals as volts/ohms in this video below.

Wow, two off positions, one next to the current setting and the current sharing the same socket as the voltage! Talk about bad design. Thanks for posting this so I know to avoid meters like this in future.

Thanks everyone for replying. I actually didn't think much when I bought this multimeter. I saw some part of one of Dave's videos about multimeters and planned to buy a multimeter with auto ranging function. I usually work under 12V and 1A so I think this multimeter is just fine for me.
