Rigol DM3058e DMM powering up on it's own...
« on: August 31, 2016, 05:52:41 am »
I noticed that my DM3058e had powered up on its own. I haven't seen it do this, but have walked into the shop to find it on. I know i didnt leave it on, because i havent really been using my gear lately. Any experience such a thing? I emailed Rigol and haven't got a reply yet. I did a search and couldn't find anything on this.

never happened to me, could be a simple defective pullup/down resistor on the digital power button?

wasn't there power loss during the night? It could turn it on by itself after power appeared again. There is "last" setting in my DM3068, not auto power on, but it remembers it's last state before power was disconnected. And will act accordingly when power appears again. Maybe this is somehow related to this setting.

Something has been happening with the power in the apartment. I'll open and close the breaker to that room and see it it does it. The power button is always lit, dimming and getting brighter continuously. Ill see if that does it and report back. Thanks.

It's a bit of a sidenote but my 3058e does this too, whenever power is applied and the rear power switch is turned on.  The front power button slowly cycles dim-bright-dim-bright.  It's very annoying, if you ask me (which you didn't LOL).

This is how Rigol equipment works, their oscilloscopes do the same. Why FFS they do it, ask their designers  :palm:

They're most likely trying to emulate the "Brushed Aluminium" era Apple gear that had the "breathing" sleep indicators.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic; e.g., Cheez Whiz, Hot Dogs and RF.
