Building an AC line splitter using a 12 gauge power cord. Want to be able to lay the meter down and use the amp tip function on the meter. Planning connect a 15 amp 5-15R straight blade connector, to the bare lead side of a 12 gauge appliance power cord. Will strip the jack back enough to separate the wire enough so I can fit the clamp meter over the hot/ live wires. The appliance power cord is 5-15P to bare leads. Anything else I should know or need to do when putting this together?
Have an Amprobe AC line splitter but it puts weight on the receptacle when I leave the clamp meter hanging on it. With couple of feet of cord, I'll be able to lay the meter down on a flat surface and use the 0-60 amp tips. Amprobe 320 has 0-60 amp tips for smaller wires that are supposed to more accurately measure low current.
Connector plug and power cord or overkill for what I'm doing, but I wanted solid and safe set up.
