Surplus stores in the East Bay area?
« on: January 19, 2018, 08:41:14 pm »
Hi,

I will be visiting the Easy Bay area (of the SF Bay Area) for a week. Are there any good surplus stores for electronics I should check out?

There used to be Mike Quinn by the Oakland Airport, but they are long gone:

Not surplus, but in Berkeley there's Al Lashers: http://quirkyberkeley.com/lashers-electronics-quirky-parts/

In the South Bay there's

Weird Stuff in Sunnyvale: http://www.weirdstuff.com/

Halted Specialties in Santa Clara: http://www.halted.com/

Excess Solutions in San Jose: http://www.excesssolutions.com/

Not exactly surplus, but Anchor Electronics in Santa Clara is a nice little store:  http://anchor-electronics.com/

There's some others listed in this old article, mostly in south bay, not sure if they're all still around:

The Fry's chain is also worth checking out if you have never been there before. There is one in Fremont.

I remember going to Mike Quinn's Electronics way back in the day.

There also used to be a electronics surplus store in SF's Civic Center area (!) I forget its name. It was close to Market Street on its (NW) not its (SE) side.

Fry's ugh!

There are some nice analog scopes on craigslist, located in Berkeley. I was just there and was tempted...but resisted.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I am doing much less what you are doing.

P.S. Visited Quinn's as a teen. That dates me.
