Amscope trinocular microscope and Eakins camera issues
« on: September 19, 2024, 10:12:28 pm »
I recently purchased an Eakins camera for my Amscope trinocular off Aliexpress, it's the one with the IMX386 sensor. The problem I have with it is that the image it gives is only usable when the DUT is really close up to the scope lens (I have a Barlow lens attached). This is not optimal:

1. I can't do any work on the DUT when it's so up close
2. The image is very zoomed and can't see a lot of the work area
3. I need to raise the DUT very close to the microscope lens with a stand (using a cardboard box for now)

Do I need to add a reduction lens to the camera? https://www.amazon.com/OMAX-0-5X-Reduction-Microscope-Camera/dp/B00FG89IZO/ref=sr_1_21?crid=2R6GJZXLJS69T&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vH-2BvgIXdTkk2uvtRxQdRlPfTdieko7tqxMNvvDtX3GjHj071QN20LucGBJIEps.UP4so_2F2kYCXlaKndWxOMxxUgN6DlPXEuYjgKit4RE&dib_tag=se&keywords=microscope+camera+lens&qid=1726784119&sprefix=microscope+camera+len%2Caps%2C193&sr=8-21

Link to what you bought please, and maybe take a photo of your setup.

With a trinocular camera, the image should be near enough what you see using the eyepieces, once adjusted. So probably the spacing or positioning of the camera is off. What adapter are you using? Does it have adjustments on it?

Attached a pic of my setup and this is the camera I've got: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805573018177.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.16.38ad1802HXfKnH&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa
I played around with the camera setting but none helped.

If you look at their example setup they are using the 0.5X C-mount adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/2255800949532328.html

So yeah you might be right that you need one of those: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/2251832766929158.html
Not sure if thats the same as your link, seems to be similar.

Sizing details here: https://www.microscopeworld.com/p-3287-microscope-c-mount-adapters-explained.aspx
1/1.9" sensor size so 0.5x should be appropriate.

I am trying to understand the issue. Does the camera's focus match the eyepieces', that is, when you get the sample in focus while looking through the eyepieces does that bring the camera in focus?

I can confirm that the reduction lens solves my issue.

Yeah, i dunno why everyone sells this microscope in this config, you need the lens on the trinocular port
