Battery charger upgrade Help
« on: May 03, 2013, 01:28:18 pm »
I found this charger and I would like to change features of the item
http://www.apogeekits.com/PDF_Files/Battery_Charger_Manual_K8012.pdf

The plans upgrade but not sure if it's  going to work and would like some help or input
1-Use a power brick instead of a transformer
2-Increase charging amp from 1 amp to 3 to 5 amp
3-Add a voltage and amp display with a 9v battery supplying to it
4 Use Soft latch configuration instead of toggle switches

So what do you guys think ???

1 Yeah no problems here I'd think
2 A bigger T7 and lower values in set R29-31 (one third less maybe? Also higher wattage of course) might just do the trick, although I haven't taken a proper look over the schematic though
3 Is there a reason you want to isolate their power sources though?
4 SW2 would probably require a fair bit of mucking around, maybe a FET for SW1? I always thought those nice resounding mechanical toggle switches are usually the preferred option to cheap plastic clicky things though...

Probably require a bit of work, but you could quite likely modify the power brick to do all the work for you if you wanted to hack it somewhat. Perhaps you could tap into the feed back circuit in there and give it some constant current control with a comparator ( and a minimalist amount of other stuff)
May be worth a think about if your into that sort of thing anyway, otherwise your upgrade should do
