Desoldering SlimStack - 0.4 picth
« on: April 01, 2019, 02:51:59 pm »
Hello everyone!
I am working on my first custom board and being a Software Engineer does not help much  ^-^

My first obstacle is that I need to connect to another board using a FlexCable with a Molex SlimStack plug on it.
I was able to find the part number of the receptacle (500024-5009) but it is discontinued and hard to find.
I am still working on the prototype so I would need only a few of them (that doesn't help).

So my options are:

1) change the plug on the flex (is it even possible without destroying everything?)
2) desolder the connector from the old board and reuse it

What do you think about these options? Are they feasible? And waht would be the best approach? Hot air or iron?
Thank you  ;D

In attachment pics of the connectors :D
