I'm actually flipping through it in more detail now, and I'm quite amazed at the detail and complexity, considering the time and the target audience. By the 6th chapter, they're helping you read TV and Radio schematics (quite complex ones, that had basic digital logic) and near the end of the book it goes into much more detail about digital logic. The first half is dedicated to explaining components and their functions in details.
I'm very impressed with this book and would highly recommend it to beginners!
How To Read Electronic Circuit Diagrams, 2nd Ed.
Robert Brown, Paul Lawrence, James Whitson

TAB Books, Inc
The first edition was in 1970 (so I guess they needed a 2nd edition by 1988!! I'm guessing they basically rewrote it considering the differences in those 18 years).
