Why is Altium viewer so slow?
« on: November 19, 2022, 06:36:33 pm »

Hi,
Why is altium viewer so slow when clicking layers on and off in "view configuration".
Can we improve it?
I have windows 10 and 8MB RAM.
Its the latest version of Altium viewer

I guess you mean 8GB. That is probably just enough to run the OS. You should upgrade to 16GB. I have 32GB but it is a bit of overkill for Altium alone.

Edit: just noticed you are talking about the viewer version. Not sure about it.

I have 32GB but made 5GB of it int a RAM disk onto which I shove the system temp folder. Reason being I don't want my SSD finite-lifetime writes being taken up with temporary system (and other) files.

Since doing that I now use it as my general download folder too - anything not moved off to permanent storage at the end of the data doesn't matter, and it doesn't steadily accumulate dross.

What sort of video card do you have?

Over the years Altium have become more GPU intensive, like if you look at their recommended requirements they ask for GTX 1060/Radeon RX 470 and above
