Scaling a step model to be used in Altium
« on: March 25, 2015, 03:00:05 pm »
When doing 3D PCB design, I usually import STEP models for complex circuit part from ".step" files which I download from some certain websites. Sometimes I can't find the exact STEP model I am looking for, but I find a larger or smaller version of it. Is there a way of scaling a STEP model in a ".step" file without using a CAD software other than Altium? A simple desktop application or an online tool can be a possible solution.

Maybe Autodesk's free 123D software?  I looked at it once for doing simple adjustments to step files, and while it's a CAD package it's a rather simple one.  I assume it should be able to scale step file without too much fuss.

Huh... you can scale primitives in a Union, but I don't know if this works for STEP models.  Give it a try?

Otherwise yeah, you're looking at having something 3D oriented fixing the model.
