Is Circuit Maker different to Altium at all?
« on: July 01, 2023, 01:44:04 pm »
Hi
Is Circuit Maker different to Altium at all?
Or is it just a cut down copy of it?
I understand its free.?

If i want to find out how to use it, would i use standard Altium tutorial videos.?

Suspect it's very different, like Circuit Studio is.  You do know this requires an internet connection to work, plus the following may be important to you...

Quote
Users are allowed to have 5 private projects, the so-called sandbox mode for practicing. By default, all schematics and PCBs are uploaded to the server and can be viewed by other users as soon as they are committed through the internal svn engine. While this renders CircuitMaker undesirable for closed source projects, it encourages collaboration in the community.

Please also look into KiCAD. It might be better (free) option than circuitmaker. I had assumed that circuit maker would be similar to Altium itself but its not.

CM and Altium are quite far apart but you can jump from one to another without much of a learning curve.
If you are new to ECAD, it is a great bit of software.
The recent 2.0 update has made it even closer to Altium but without all the bells and whistles.

A lot of people will suggest KiCAD over it but it really depends on what your needs are.
CM is so much more user-friendly than KiCAD full stop.
