Altium live and evaluation
« on: October 13, 2013, 05:33:37 pm »
I can't believe what a pain it is just to join the Altium community or even to get my hands on the eval software for designer.

Is this normal, or am I dong something wrong? They haven't bothered to even contact me after a week.

Ugh.

An idea might be to resend the request using a different email addr and give the request an air of professionalism about it, i.e. "I'm an engineer, about to embark on a medium to large design project for..............." about it (assuming you didn't do that first time)......you might be lucky 2nd time around.

As with any professional package, they are not looking at the hobbyist market, sadly.

I have found that when I use gmail/yahoo/isp etc I don't get much responses from companies, since they are marketing/sales driven.

However if you set up a business sounding email via one of the many email providers out there (for example google pro gmail,  $5/month or $50/year, no affiliation etc... just know someone who uses it for their business and likes it.)

Now you are engineer@cooltechnamecompany.undertheradar.com

Likely to go loads better for you...

What bothers me, is if I like using it I wouldn't mind shelling out the large amount of cash for it.

Also, on their site it is bleeding... "try the free eval version!". I saw no stipulation that they would have put an upturned nose in my face first.

I get the impression that the company is populated with pompous dickheads.  :--

I have to admit that it made me try the other option for a free version, on my personal machine.  I didn't get a trial until I asked nicely twice.  Then a short while later, we wrote them a big check.

The biggest annoyance in all industries is this, let us have a salesman contact you for a price.  Sorry, but if I can get a comparable product from someone who will give me a price, you will never hear from me, because most salesmen are a waste of my time.

I was able to get a live account after 2 weeks of sending an inquiry. It had to be personally approved.

When I had a student license, I remember it was quite difficult to get them to reply to enquiries. I wanted to pay for it and everything!

It looks like I had more success when I used an email address (sales.au at altium dot com) rather than the contact form.
