Keithley 2015THD Firmware
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:28:20 pm »
I know a few of us have now purchased a 2015 from JKDS - While going through mine I was wondering what the latest firmware was.

I can't find any over on the Keithley forums so wondered what was on all yours, maybe we could swap the newest release around the group.

Ill go first: REV:B17   A02

Mine is also B15 /A02

Code: [Select]
'KEITHLEY INSTRUMENTS INC.,MODEL 2015,104xxxx,B15  /A02  \n'

Btw:
I just read a warning aimed at someone , wanting to upgrade a 2000 (same measurement engine) , it was mentioned that the CAL values would be lost , after an upgrade  ???

My meter came (from KJDS) with a May-2011 Cal , and i'd hate to loose that.

That would be me  ::) , I own two working and one work in progress 2000's.
One of my (now) working 2000's was originally faulty. It would power up , but hang. After lots of messing around I determined that the firmware didn't like what was in the i2c eeprom.
A few more diagnostics and I had changed a few parts of the i2c enough that the meter worked okay.
So - I asked Keithley if there were any bugs which might have caused this (the meter had very early firmware). Well they had no reports of any such events - but did suggest my firmware was very old - and I should send it in to be upgraded. Well the meter cost me 100ukp - and I had blanks and a cat like curiosity - so they made the firmware available on the Keithley support forums - yes that was my doing. Unfortunately when I changed the firmware - all calibration was lost and I had to re-calibrate.
So that was the reason for my big fat warning - the format of your i2c from your old firmware may not be compatible with your new firmware ( and certainly some firmware has different calibration requirements ). The only sensible things for the firmware to do would either wipe the data and require recal - or convert the data - with the proviso it might not be as accurate as previously due to missing data for new calibration methods.

Here is the link indicating calibration methods change

And here the discussion on the eeprom issue which led to this.

I also got one bought from KJDS. Great buying experience, great piece of hardware.

I'm out on a business trip right now so I can't really tell which firmware version it's loaded with, but one question comes to my head. Is there anything to gain by upgrading? It works really great as it is right now...

How much did you buy them for?
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Mine are not the newest, they are B15. I can probably copy them with my programmer. The newest one seems to be B17 around here.  :)

I will upload by B17 and my IC2 EEPROM this week at some point.

Can anyone upload their B15 and IC2 EEPROM so I can compare the calibration tables.

Has anyone got a calibrated unit with later firmware  than my B17 ????

Would be nice to be able to convert the calibrated tables over through a conversion script if the layout in the ROM is different.

Some nice debugging you did there... What tool did you use to play with the EEPROM? I'm considering trying to switch from GPIB to RS232 that way, since the front panel won't let me.
I am but an egg

Well, took a look today and my unit is on B12 A02. Rather old it seems, but the question is: What is to be gained by making a upgrade?

It's calibrated mars 2011 and is working good.

Oh and mine now has a lovely new set of feet and a handle for bench use  :)

Mine also from KJDS and also B17 A02.

Did you get the feet and handle from Keithley spares?

I did get a quote from them for handle, left and right mounting ear and feet that came to £13. However they have a £40 minimum order so I have not gone ahead yet.

Great meter, I just bought a second one even though I don't _need_ it...hard to pass up at $350 when I have spare cash...

My first one is B15 A02. Sometimes it doesn't power up on the first try - it beeps and clicks like it is but the display is fully lit. Power cycling always fixes it. My other one comes in next week :/

Both are great condition bench models :)

Hi all, old thread I know but:-

My two units,
B13 A02
B12 A02

Has anyone uploaded a newer firmware?
If I upgrade will I lose currect calibration?
Is there any real life advantage to upgrading from B12/B13?
