Great find! Never saw a black one with a PS/2 socket before OR a front mounted switch

The socket is a real joke ...

Here's mine with a front mounted switch

The name on the PCB suggests it's a rebrand of the Lukey 936A. The circuit looks like the standard one with a triac and dual comparator, but the connector might be a bit weak for the rated wattage (40W? 30W?) although they may be paralleling pins for higher ampacity. The heater appears to be ceramic type.

Those "Microphone" plugs/sockets are actually rated at 10A/32VDC. I've used them in a number of applications (including harsh conditions) for several amps of current and have never encountered any problems. As far as soldering irons go, they are a nice / cheap conversion for those crappy DIN connectors on old Weller stations.

Oops, sorry, I was refering to the plug on T4P's unit. Yours has a crappy DIN connector, just like my brand new and stylish (not overly cheap either) Hakko soldering station at work, as well as all of our old and horrible Weller units.

The factory DIN connectors never lasted the life of the old Weller units, so it's annoying to see them still being used as some kind of standard ~20 years later in new "premium" products.

Me i just prefer the DIN-5 connector on the clones ...

I'm waiting for them to use XLR sockets  :o
