[SOLD] FLIR E4 Thermal camera FW1.19. Upgraded to E8+ from Fraser
« on: September 10, 2017, 03:01:53 pm »
I cannot believe I am advertising one of my thermal cameras for sale! As an avid collector and dedicated lover of the technology, my usual M.O. is to buy these cameras and not to sell them.

I have recently purchased a FLIR E40 that I upgraded to the E60+ spec. I own two FLIR E4 cameras (one and a spare) as I love the E4 design and its ease of upgrade to E8+ spec. With that in mind, both my E4 cameras are the venerable 1.19 firmware. My favourite as it was the last 'non-countermeasured' and complete firmware version. It has all the goodies still present including the Service Menu that was deleted in later version as a countermeasure to upgrading. Firmware 1.19 requires no updating as it is both stable and without nasty bugs. FLIR produced new firmware version in an attempt to stop the upgrades.

I am selling the spare camera that I purchased from a Solar Panel installation company that closed down. It is still in lovely condition and has not been abused or taken apart. The camera was still Virgin when purchased but I upgraded it to the E8+ spec that provides the full 320 x 240 pixel resolution and additional menu's beyond those found on even the top of the range E8 model. The upgrade is well proven, reversible and stable. It is a turn key solution for those who want what is, IMHO, the best E4 model ever sold, and no need to do the upgrade process. I will provide the back-up files that were taken before the upgrade so the camera may be reverted to standard spec if required in the future. In the interests of full disclosure there is a small ding in the top of the rubber screen surround. It looks like the camera was bumped into a sharp edge at some time. I am a perfectionist and it honestly is so minor as to not worry me. The LCD screen protector also has some VERY minor light scratches and as anyone who owns one of these cameras knows, the plastic is scratched very easily even when using a soft lens cloth. Nothing nasty here either.

I honestly cannot believe I am selling this camera. I just took some test pictures with it and it is still a joy to use. I really love these E4's, even though I own far more expensive industrial cameras !

Now how much am I asking for this fine example of an upgraded E4 ? Well it is used, but this is somewhat offset by the firmware version it is running with its amazingly easy reconfiguration and unmolested by FLIR's later attempts at upgrade countermeasures. Did I say I loved this camera ?

I would like to achieve £700 for this camera. The UK Pound is very weak at the moment so my European friends could get a good deal here ? I am open to discussion on price but the first to offer £700 and make payment gets it. I will not be selling my other E4, I like it too much !

Can I be trusted ? Well I am quite well known on this forum so unlikely to 'con' anyone. I will also provide my full details to the purchaser of the camera.

What will you receive?

1. FLIR E4 Thermal Camera in E8+ configuration 320 x 240 pixels plus extra menus.
2. Original FLIR battery Pack
3. Original FLIR Power supply - US and UK plugs
4. Original FLIR USB Cable
5. Original Paperwork
6. Original FLIR Hard Case (it is scuffed on the outside)

Payment via PayPal friends and family or bank transfer. Postage will be at cost.

If you want a really great 320 x 240 pixel fully self contained thermal camera, look no further. This forum is full of praise for this camera and additions that improve its versatility, such as close-up lenses and tripod brackets.

Remember, the latest FLIR E4 2017 models are not upgradeable, and may never be, as I understand the FLIR upgrade countermeasures are excellent. On this occasion, the older models are actually the more desirable due to their unmolested firmware !

Some pictures of the camera showing its thermal images. As can be seen it is working perfectly.

Obviously a picture of the LCD screen display will not do the camera justice and i was at the limit of close focus in this test case.
It is imaging my CBA III PC controlled battery analyser whilst I am discharge testing a LiPo battery.

Just my two cents.

Fraser is for me the Thermal IR pope, his knowledge is remarkable.
I have already a E4 (mod. to E8+) otherwise this thing would be already sold to me.

I can't believe none has already took this baby home.

Brumby,

I totally understand your situation. It is not insignificant sums of money and postage to Australia on a 3Kg parcel could be expensive. Sadly thermal cameras are expensive beasts. A 320 x 240 pixel camera at sub £1000 would have been unthinkable a few years ago though. The E8 still costs a significant sum.

We are so lucky to have the E4 that may be upgraded at no cost.

I set my price at what I was comfortable with as I do love these cameras. As you can see though, I tend to add extras after a deal as that is just the sort of person I am. Treat others as you would wish to be treated is my motto  :)

Best Wishes

Zucca,

Thanks for the vote of confidence Sir. I am an honourable person who likes to do the right thing by others.
As many collectors will know, it is often hard to sell items, but the E4 is a duplicate and it is wrong to not use it. It needed a new home. The fact that it is the original non countermeasured firmware makes her a real beauty. People sometimes forget how much FLIR messed with the later firmware in an attempt to prevent the upgrade. For me 1.19 will always be the most desirable firmware.

Missed this one  :(
I was thinking about sending you a question if you wanted to sell it a month ago but knowing that you never sell anything I just didn't bother.
May I offer to be second in line if the first buyer does not go through ?
Another thought, are you sure you don't want to sell the other E4 as well , there are probably so many other new thermal camera's coming out soon  >:D  :)

I thank you for responding to my brief expression of interest.  That says a lot about a person, too.

I am aware of the cost of decent thermal imaging equipment.  It is a fact that separates me from acquiring a unit.  I've been looking at E4's for a while, but never saw anything come along within reach - which was (I will admit) unrealistically low.

I think it best if I retreat into my vicarious happy place - but thank you for this moment.

Brumby, no need to give up on a dream.

PM me your desires (please be realistic about your needs though) and I will see if there is anything that I can do for you within your budget. Be honest with me on budget as no offence will be caused. I am retired at only 50 due to ill health and spend way too much of my wife's money on thermal cameras .... she would be glad to see me sell even a few !

If you just want an entry into thermal cameras I may have something for you at an entry level price. Postage would need to be carefully considered but some cameras are quite light. I am not offering an E4 at a bargain price though... I just cannot afford to take the loss !

I don't think Brumby's wife as anywhere near as forgiving, so any purchase needs to be below her finely tuned radar.
